The Book MAKAM by Rita Chowdhury is about a painful story of Chinese Assamese across Assam.

The story of MAKAM (meaning Golden Horse in Chinese) depicts the Chinese origin people who were brought to India by the British for the tea plantation. They married to different communities and settled down in Assam. But the horrible time were ahead as China attacked India in 1962. And these poor people had to leave India only because of their originality. Around 1,500 Indian Chinese were picked up from Makum, a small town of upper Assam and sent to a detention camp in Deoli, Rajasthan. MAKAM; is about the struggles, sufferings and the multiple tragedies of Chinese origin peoples in the past two centuries. It can be considered as the ‘Black Chapter’ of Indo-China war.
