WHY TO LEARN CHINESE?

What is generally referred to as Chinese is in fact the language of Chinas largest nationality, the Hans. It is the main language spoken in China and one of the worlds major languages. It is not only the official language of China but also the working language in international forums. Its written records go back to more than 3,000 years ago. When the Yuan dynasty came to rule in China in 13th century, Beijing became the capital of the Chinese empire and remained a capital for more than 6 centuries. As the state grew more centralized, the northern dialect, known as guan hua or Mandarin was being used by the administration and the intellectuals and has continued to be so till date.

It is now called putonghua or common speech or Modern Chinese. A Chinese character or ideograph is the script of Spoken Chinese. Each character is also a meaningful syllable. The total number of Chinese characters goes beyond 50,000. Out of which 5000 to 8,000 characters are in general use. Almost 3,000 characters are in daily use in reality. Chinese language has eight major dialects. The areas for these dialects are : North China (for Northern dialect), Jiangsu-Zhejiang (for the Wu dialect), Hunan (for the Hunan dialect), Kejia (for the Kejia dialect which is spoken by the descendants of the Northerners who had moved to Southern China long back), northern Fujian (for the Fujian dialect) and Guangdong (for the Yue, another name of Guangdong Province, dialect). Of all these dialects about 70% speak the Northern dialect and that is why this dialect has been chosen the basis of the common speech or Modern Chinese. Now the Northern dialect or Mandarin or Common Speech (Putonghua) or Modern Chinese is in widespread use and is the official language of the PRC and the main communicating tool of other Chinese speaking areas.

The latest fact about the language is that there is a big deeply felt-need and necessity among the Indian businessmen to learn the modern Chinese as bilateral trade has been increasing leap and bounds and has already crossed the US $ 18 billion mark. In another next 5 years it may double, if other conditions remain the same. The present text-course in conversational Chinese has been prepared very carefully and professionally to cater the need of such learners and gives a comprehensive knowledge of Chinese in daily use with the added value of business vocabulary and other modern areas of trade. It is not only exact and precise but time saving too and meets the goals of learning Chinese fast with comprehensive practical knowledge of the basics of Chinese language.
