Kolkata New Airport

Kolkata new airport construction is at it’s full-swing. The first phase of this project will comprise a 40,000mฒ two-level building that can accommodate a passenger flow of 1,800 an hour (the second phase will see the size and capacity doubled).

The revamped kolkata new airport will then be able to handle around 20 million passengers compared to the five million it can cope with currently.

In the past, one would find stray cats lurking around shops and passengers waiting area of Indian airports.

I wonder if the Indian Aiport Authority would still approve this at Indian newest airports as holy cows in the middle of busy Indian streets of major metros.

  2. ravi says:

    to: rahul

Have heard of rats swooping in herds at Indian airports, I suppose the cats are put there to catch them.

    Good thinking of IAA.

  3. amit says:

Rats are also revered holy as the cows. They are often found scurrying inside the flight cabins of most Air India International flights.

Hope IAA will continue to keep them in all Indian airports as KMC had done so with their colony in Dalhousie Square.

  4. ycl1688 says:

Rats on board will destroyed AI.

Yet the airport in kolkata has awakened the babus to build a modern airport, consider the Dubai sheiks asked the tourist minister of their own country what can bring tourists to dubai, and the reply was build more hotels and airports, then the rest is history, today emirates is the premier airlines of the world.
One would consider kolkata airport will attracts more direct foreign airlines to India, and avoid the frustrating experience of stopping in delhi to transfer to kolkata flying domestic.
kudos to Kolkata airport authority for expansion.

  5. ycl1688 says:

    correction will destroy AI.

  6. kumar says:

whatever the reasons of the babus, let’s keep the rats population growing on board of all AI flights and in all Indian airports per Indian culture of respect for Goddess. A separate location should be reserved for rats in air cabins and at airports where devotees can offer them milk as in temples.

Is the old Kolkata airport to be demolished ?

Look forward to the new Kolkata airport.

  7. Belinda says:

By building such a nice airport is no use if those lousy govt workers around would not improve their way of service…. They are so bloody slow and take their own sweet time while we wait at the immigration with heavy bags and tired bodies.

Its high time they should replace whose lousy ppl with young and freshman…..

  8. jyoti says:

    Belinda

You are right…..one should not set any expectations with high hope of improvement in service when the new airport is built. That’s what India was, is and will continue to be.

However, since the Kolkata Airport Authority will bring in the holy rats colony for devotees to pay respect, pray and offer milk in the new airport – the tired travellers will be amused and entertained as if visiting an Indian temple.

Tired travellers should carry some bread crumbs to feed the rats when they next visit Kolkata new airport so that they would not be bored with slow and long waiting queues.

  9. ycl1688 says:

To those who wanted to keep rats as pets might as well ‘adopt’ one at the famous park. Mankind has been inventing and reinventing mouse traps to catch those nuisance. Finally a clue trap has been invented.

    Belinda,
I understand not only the govt employees inefficient, also some of the airlines employees are bad as well.

  10. Belinda says:

okay enough of cat fights, this is a wide ranging fight from cinema to romance. What is left out ? How many more childish remarks ? Can we be considered a grown up ?

A word of warning to the instigator, who started the latest flare up with love sick remark, wishing which new year, Bengali or Chinese (which is long past).
My understanding that boys school usually has an eye on the next door girls school PM in short. And express his affection of love as Romeo.
Who am I to write these words ? I want this blog to keep up the higher standard as always.
Keep in mind this is a family oriented site.

  24. tercel says:

amit, u r a rude rascal. I had 2 sisters studying at Loreto at the time and been there many times, picked up and dropped off by family chauffered car. It was then a brother/sister school relation type in our family alone and not for the the lowlife type of person to comment (halami bacha). this blog site is for promoting peace and good readership, person like you will be kicked out.

  26. Lucy says:

My beloved Kolkata, this is where I was born and grew up. Nice to see such development. Are they doing any thing for passengers during bandh. I remember Kolkata is popular for bandh (strike). I used to enjoy it during school days. Never knew it causes so much pain for travellers. I remember reading an article, during one of the bandh people hired cycle van from railway station paying them many times more to get to the airport, just to find the flight had been cancelled.
I have recently moved to Florida, over here there is no bandh, but weather is the main reason. during monsoon there is hardly Sun shine, and storm are very frequent. The airport closed down. Sometime it feels like last forever, poor passenger like us sometimes travelling to meet their love ons get stuck. they can only hope and pray that sun will come up and we can fly to our destiny.

  27. Suranjan says:

I agree with you bandh can be very painful. Even sometimes going to the bazaar for basic need can become very difficult.
I pray and hope that the govt will pass a law to make bandh illegal.
Why would politician resort to bandh when court are there. The judicial system are pretty fair.
    God bless kolkata!

  28. Richard says:

Yeah Surajan you are right!!!!!Kolkata need god’s help.

  29. blah says:

god bless kolkata… it took nearly 10 yrs to complete the flyover connecting to fancy market and the length of the flyover is barely 200m.. so people can forget abt a new airport..

  30. bhoo says:

yup, the airport project is dead……

    Ma Kali bless Kolkata.

  31. rahul says:

Is AI still thinking of having a rats colony in the Kolkata new airport ?

Can someone check on this, please.

  32. ycl1688 says:

The babus are too occupied with Commonwealth games in delhi, they have spent tons of money on delhi airport.

  33. dino says:

what’s the point of spending tons of money on the delhi airport when most of it have gone down the pockets of the officials in charge of the project and the games infrastructure. corruption, corruption, corruption……….

the latest news is that the games may be stalled if many of the participating countries boycott it for fear of safety and improper structure of the stadiums and living quarters.

the prime minister, manmohan singh, is now personally involved in the clean-up of the mess to allay fears.

    SHAME INDIA SHAME……

  34. dhawal poddar says:

cannot wait for the new airport to be completed
